Co-authored two artist entries for the Bocconi Art Gallery catalogue, published by Umberto Allemandi. This year the collection is shown under the theme of nature, with artists who move away from mimetic depiction toward conceptual and abstracted readings of it. The exhibition and catalogue will be inaugurated in November 2026.

The entries analyse Massimo Kaufmann's Clinamen (2013) and Binta Diaw's Nature I.I, Nature II.III and Nature III.I, from her ongoing Paysage corporel series, treated as a single triptych.

A one-night group exhibition on humanity's relationship with the non-human, built around the idea of a bestiary as a form of resistance. Curated by Olivia Bicker Caarten, with Hinrik Leonard Ingólfsson, Melibea Jaime, Giulia Pistoso, Samuel Price and Silvia Santoro, and a live performance by Melibea Jaime and Alejandra Lan. Occupying a central position in today's artistic dialogues and recognised as one of the most experimental artists of our time, Charline von Heyl, a German-born American artist of singular vision, has innovated painting since the 1990s. Her thirty-five years to date of chance, risk and considered action have re-inscribed the discourse, opening new pathways and approaches to painting and liberating the practice for new generations, from the late 20th century to the present day.

Coordinated research, editing and production, handled image rights and copyright clearances, and tracked the publication budget alongside the exhibition.

This publication is a collection of the first series of conversations on contemporary art and culture, part of the public program at the George Economou Collection for Steven Shearer: Sleep, Death's Own Brother. Taking the exhibition as a starting point, these conversations explore some of its principal themes with a novel approach at the intersection of art and visual culture.

Some of these themes include the value of portraiture, the significance and implications of found photography, the impact of New Objectivity on photography and the resurgence of subculture as a constant referent among many contemporary artists. The conversations were conceived, and gained further momentum, in a moment of political instability, social fractiousness and ecological alarm. In an image-saturated world, where technology pervades all aspects of social and personal life, they encourage a thoughtful engagement with contemporary visual arts, foster critical thinking and underline the educational and cultural significance of art.

One of the most significant figurative artists of our time, American artist Dana Schutz renders subjects central to contemporary concerns, reflecting peripatetic beings or twisted characters in surreal scenes, while using satire and humour to provoke questions. The catalogue presents nearly twenty-five years of practice in which she nimbly unveils the contrarian conditions of the world, speaking to timely issues such as justice, history, public space and freedom within both individual and collective realms.

An ongoing research project on voice, AI and the female disembodied voice.

Opening

This text is based on research conducted for the International Honors Thesis The Voice in My Room, a practice-based research project focusing on Voice Assistant technologies (VAs), presented to the Deree – ACG International Honors Committee in February 2022. The launch of ChatGPT in November of the same year, with its advanced Natural Language Processing capabilities, set a new standard for conversational AI and reignited excitement and anxieties about its implications for all aspects of human life.

Although VA technologies may seem obsolete, the intersection of voice and AI remains relevant, with the launch of OpenAI's GPT-4o model in May 2024 and its voice functionality. An anthropomorphised voice option resembling actress Scarlett Johansson evokes dystopian sci-fi scenarios and raises questions: What does big tech encourage the public to imagine? What biases and assumptions underpin these technologies? What does it mean for machines to have a voice, and whose voice can AI ventriloquise? This text briefly explores the historicity of Voice Assistant technologies, from pre-AI voice recognition and synthesis systems to early conversational AI models, and, running in parallel, another history of the mechanical disembodied female. Understanding these multiple 'echoes' in history reveals that there is no single ancestry for these devices, but weaving the threads together highlights contemporary concerns.

The works presented continue the artist's personal quest around existential questions, but here solitary creation becomes interactive through live contact with visitors, who become collaborators. Strange creatures inhabit Georgiou's world, sometimes anthropomorphic, sometimes not. They roam around and interact, but mostly they are waiting, posing, looking at us, observing.

Georgiou is best known for his travel projects in Iran and India. The works he made while travelling reached known and unknown recipients by post, mainly handmade cards and painted black-and-white photocopies of his own photographs. Since the birth of his son in 2017, the travel projects have given way to painting, continuing his early friction with the medium.

The title, From the Point of View of Yes, speaks of a state of affirmation: the moment we open up to accept the unknown and the risks it carries. Georgiou's journeys to distant parts of the world become, through painting, a journey through the gallery, where visitors meet hidden and unknown characters along an unpredictable course.

Mapping the Greek contemporary scene

Educational Heurism is a multi-year research and publication project by artist Georgia Kotretsos that maps Greece's decentralised, independent art scene. Through field research and interviews with grassroots cultural producers, it documents how regional communities build alternative, place-based knowledge systems outside major institutional hubs.

Gathered into a print series of three volumes, it serves as both a critical guide and a permanent archive, and as a practical toolkit for navigating cultural and social transitions. The books highlight independent project spaces, residencies and platforms that champion shared agency and localised learning.

Volume II features 36 independent platforms and initiatives established in Greece, along with a number operating abroad, run by Greek artists and curators.

Digital voice assistants are woven into everyday life. They help users through their daily routines while inhabiting private spaces and listening to personal conversations, always one wake word away from joining in. This calls for these technologies to be examined and questioned, and for a wider discussion of the blurred ethical boundaries of artificial intelligence.

The Voice in My Room is a practice-based artistic research project on conversational AI, and particularly on voice assistants. It consists of a series of performative experiments in the form of audio recordings that interview these interfaces on topics including their ontology, surveillance, intimacy and personality, exploring how the systems are programmed to present themselves. Further recordings let the technologies interact with one another with limited human intervention, testing their communication skills and their role as social actors. Comparing interactions with Siri and Alexa to conversations with the Replika app draws out the differences between digital assistants and AI companions.

Research

The project is accompanied by an essay that traces the history of these technologies, maps existing research on the questions they raise, and examines contemporary artists whose work engages with them.

Presentation

The project was presented online as a virtual archive: a dedicated website held the experiments and the research, while an Instagram account extended its interactive character and gathered an online community. Developed as the thesis for the International Honors Program at The American College of Greece, it was presented to the International Honors Committee and at the 4th Athens Social Sciences Forum in 2022.

Opening

The mystery around the subject matter of the Garden of Earthly Delights has made Hieronymus Bosch's large triptych, today at the Prado Museum in Madrid, an iconographic problem that has long puzzled scholars.

Little is known of its commission or date. Dendrochronological analysis of the panels and stylistic evidence place its creation between 1490 and 1505. No contract or document naming the patron survives; the earliest account is found in the travel journals of Antonio de Beatis, an Italian canon who accompanied Cardinal Luigi d'Aragona and described the work in the Brussels palace of Henry III of Nassau in 1517, leading most scholars to agree that the patron was either Henry III or his uncle Engelbert II.

Closed, the triptych shows the third day of Creation in grisaille. Open, the left panel presents the Garden of Eden, the central panel a garden of nude figures, enlarged fruits and animals, and the right panel Hell. The paper examines the key interpretations of the work to argue for the polysemy embedded in Bosch's visual language. While the triptych is primarily read in religious terms, its imagery has also been associated with alchemy and astrology, and the paper proposes that the erudite viewer of the time would have connected its religious motifs with these other cultural currents.

MOMAFAD (The Museum of Modern Art for a Day) is a project and artwork by Greek artist Dionisis Christofilogiannis that reclaims spaces and turns them into museums for a single day. Each edition gathers works by a group of contemporary artists, handed over to the organisers for the day. Photographed, these temporary installations become a permanent part of the site's history.

The first MOMAFAD took place in the abandoned East Terminal of Ellinikon International Airport in Athens, designed by Finnish modernist architect Eero Saarinen in 1968. The building was chosen for both its architectural value and its place in public memory. Vacant since 2001 and designated a national heritage site in 2006, it remained abandoned until its recent inclusion in the large-scale Ellinikon redevelopment. The catalogue's texts explore it as a site of contradiction, history, memory and fragility, caught between private, civic and public ownership.

The photographs of the ephemeral installations, newly commissioned texts and archival material make up MOMAFAD's final form: a publication that aims to become an archive in its own right.

Presentations

The inauguration of MOMAFAD, with the screening of the documentary film and an open discussion, took place at EMST – National Museum of Contemporary Art, Athens, on 18 November 2021.

MOMAFAD was also invited to and presented in the exhibition SunShip: The Arc That Makes The Flood Possible by Arts Letters & Numbers, at the CITYX Venice Italian Virtual Pavilion of the 17th Venice Biennale of Architecture.

A site-specific exhibition in the John S. Bailey Library. Taking Rodin's thinker as its point of departure, the show asks how the thinker has been represented through history, and whether, in the twenty-first century and after the pandemic, we still think alone.

In the library, thinking is tied to study, a practice carried out in solitude with books, new media and technology. Moving beyond the white cube, the exhibition proposes thinking as a collective process rather than a solitary one. Drawing on Carol Becker's idea of the "agitated now" and our need for contemplative time, it asks whether AI and "thinking machines" widen or narrow our answers, and what new, symbiotic ecosystems of consciousness might emerge in a post-human condition.
